How can you make your writing more interesting - - to your friends and relatives, and especially to yourself? Here are some simple steps.
Make what you write brief enough to keep the reader's attention, yet make them feel they are with you wherever you are. You might consider a daily log of where you go, and whom you meet. Remember, events which are not funny at the time, (for example, when you ran out of gas 10 miles from the nearest town) can be funny later. Consider adding photos, ticket stubs, etc. to transform the log into a scrapbook.
Re-read what you have written. Try not to use the same words over and over. Find synonyms for words like beautiful and wonderful, lovely, etc. Details make writing more interesting. Why say we drove up a hill, when the addition of the grade (8%!) might fire up the reader's imagination even more. Use people's names whenever you can.
Do write. You will find that you look at people, places and events in an entirely different way when you contemplate describing them on paper.
